Even as a child, I was witnessing what I now call the Black Sheep Tax. It’s the invisible price we pay when a system - whether it’s a family, a corporation, or a culture - - prioritizes the “Box” of appearance over the “Bread” of human truth.
We use excuses to cover the truth because the truth is uncomfortable. We say “it’s not that bad” or “it’s just the holidays,” while our nervous systems are screaming for safety.
The Vulnerability 🛡️
In 2020, I was the face of a national campaign telling the world to “Face the Issue” of abuse. Billboards. TV spots. Internet ads.
The world saw the “Box” of a successful Doctor. But inside, I was privately navigating my own escape from a “hell” that began in 2017. I was telling the world to face their truth while I was fighting for my life to face mine.
